who is the roving journo?
Hey there! I’m Ashley, a Singaporean journalist in Hong Kong who swapped newsroom deadlines for airport boarding calls
and somehow ended up here.
she’s an island girl
Originally from Singapore (yes, I miss the hawker food, no I will not stop talking about it), I now spend my days eating my way through Asia and documenting the good, the bad, and the aggressively mediocre—mostly solo, because apparently I enjoy navigating sketchy alleyways and questionable hostels without backup.
I travel so much, I should probably write about it
I started this blog because travel writing was getting way too polished and not nearly honest enough. You’ll find zero “wanderlust vibes” here—just real talk about where to go, what’s actually worth your time as a solo female traveler, and which “hidden gems” are neither hidden nor gems.
When I’m not arguing with taxi drivers in Cantonese or getting spectacularly lost in places with no Google Maps coverage, I’m hunting down the best street food, dodging tourist traps, perfecting the art of enjoying a solo dinner, and wondering why every café is serving the same basque burnt cheesecake.
the solo female traveller cliche
Fair warning: I have opinions™ about dim sum, a concerning addiction to trying every noodle dish I see, and I will judge your travel recommendations. Also, I’ve been asked “aren’t you scared traveling alone?” approximately 47,000 times. Spoiler: the most dangerous thing I’ve encountered is my own sense of direction.
Come for the travel tips, stay for the questionable life choices and the occasional rant
about airline loyalty programs.
